Expedition members - Name: Bill Stewarts RP'd by: Vman0 Role: Engineer Stats: *3 *2 *3 Equipment: Boltcutters, Field Guide, and Radio unit Expedition Group: (Undecided at the moment) Bio: A private eye from the EPA, he was sent to Isla Sorna to investigate the rampant invasive dinosaurs on the island, as well as the litter and junk left behind after it's abandonment by InGen. This assignment wasn't voluntary, as the higher ups didn't like his abrasive personality and guile, which led to his 'reassignment to antarctica'. He also made a blood oath during his high school years, but who he made that oath with is a mystery. Name: Randy Archer RP'd by: DiverseInterests47 Role: Paleontologist Stats: *3 *1 *4 Equipment: Medical kit, Road flare, Radio Unit Expedition Group: (Currently undecided) Bio: Randy Archer loved dinosaurs ever since he was a kid. He studied them all throughout collage and helped on some digs as well, even meeting the later famous Dr. Alan Grant. However, upon hearing of the incident on Isla Nubar, his love for the once great creatures tempered off somewhat. Until one day when he was asked along as a consultant for the Isla Sorna expedition. It is up to him to act as a guide for the others and ensure their survival against creatures perfected by 65 million years of evolution. Name: Gary Paladecki RP'd by: Temnizziv Role:Tracker Action:3 Stealth:3 Skill:2 Equipment:Tranquilizer, Binoculars, and Ka-Bar Knife Expedition Group:undecided Bio:A sensitive nature lover at heart, he always preferred to deal with animals rather than the academic subjects of highschool. He lost his father on an automobile accident, and suffering from the resulting grief, had a falling out with a close friend. He eventually went to work for an environmental NGO before being hired by Hammond as a field scout for the expedition to Isla Sorna. He has an antagonistic relationship with Nick Van Owen due to ideological differences and Bill Stewarts for unspecified reasons. You have been hand selected by John Hammond to be sent to Isla Sorna, Site B of InGen's Jurassic Park project where all the dinosaurs and research was abandoned after a hurricane two years ago. Now amidst worries some would call for the island to be sterilized for fear of contamination of "dangerous lifeforms" to the mainland and the ever present danger InGen might be hacked by outside forces looking to exploit the island's resources and research, he's sent for you from your agencies on a documentation expedition while he and Simon Masrani try to organize InGen's remaining assets to get the island protected and quarantined. Public opinion is the only thing that can both let the creatures live in peace and keep people safe from them. While InGen was able to supply you with a list of the species on the island you're likely to find, the research notes on them were left on Sorna. Additionally, the lead field researcher, Dr. Richard Levine, took off ahead of time as he jumped at the chance to study real living dinosaurs before others. Hammond lost contact with him some days ago. You're only clue to his location is he was trying to study the Stegosaurus population. If you find the Stegosaurus herd, you might find Levine... or what's left of him and his research if he's not alive. Your ship pulled you up to Isla Sorna's shore and your base is composed of two all-terrain trailers that can double as a medical bay, machine shop, and laboratory. It is stocked with food, a radio amplifier to call for the back-up team and rescue, and is linked to Hammond's server to upload your research. Returning to the trailers restores all injuries and fixes broken tools. Objectives: Find Dr. Levine or a clue to his whereabouts. Document a species of large herbivore and small carnivore. After setting up the trailers, the team sets out for a series of forested creeks towards Levine's last known location. The shrubs on the sides are thick and very concealing, but the creek is shallow enough it's dry in many spots and very easy to walk down, and assorted tracks show many animals are doing just that with signs of life being evident. There is an odd chirping sound to the south with Levine's satellite phone signal coming from the north. Bill, do you A. Investigate the north B. Investigate the south Randy, do you A. Investigate the north B. Investigate the south Gary, do you A. Investigate the north B. Investigate the south C. Use binoculars (skill roll) and check one of those directions? (pick one)

(Option A I shall pick)
As soon as the trailers were ready, it was obvious that despite his discomfort, he had elected to stay with his group, having known that safety could be found in numbers, despite how small the group was.

(Option A)
As the only member of the group who can positively identify dinosaurs if they are encountered, I stick by the group as well to ensure any animals that we come across are relatively docile.

Please use the out of character chat thread for chats like this, I've moved them there. Makes scrolling much easier if you keep just RP posts on the RP thread OOC chat thelostworldsurvival.freeforums.net/thread/4/out-character-chat========================================================= The expedition might look small, but Hammond does have a second team to come in if needed. However he noted a smaller group would attract less attention by the local fauna and might be safer in the long run... Or it's Hammond's oversight getting the best of him like it did in 1993, the man is aging. Gary uses his binoculars to look southward, skill roll, |eCxkpyMSkill 2 + rolled 4 = 6.... success! Gary successfully glimpses a small, green animal dart across the creek bed. It's only a foot or so tall, looking like a elongated lizard with a chicken's posture, with a very long tail and thin build. It stops and makes a loud chirping noise before hopping over towards a deeper portion of the creek to start drinking behind the cover of a fallen log. Clearly a dinosaur of some sort, but what kind? And is it an infant or adult? Gary, do you A. Investigate by yourself? B. Join your party members to ask them for assistance? C. Join your party members to see what they found? Randy and Bill head in the opposite direction, about fifty yards away, and come across a bend in the creek. The moved rock and shrubs, browsed and bare in some places from a herbivore's actions. To the side of one such bare spot however is a glint of metal. It's a snap-ring to a large backpack with the words "R. Levine" on the seam in white-letters, complete with a "Dr." stenciled next to it... Richard always was one with an ego to throw his PhD around. The bag has a large gash in the side and looks spilled out with some of it's items loose in the nearby area. There is a low groan near the bag and it moves slightly, covered in the shrubs. Randy, do you A. Call out for Dr. Levine to see if the grunt was him? B. Walk up to pick up the bag? Bill, do you A. Check the ground to see if there are anything scattered about from the bag being open? (Skill roll) B. Call out for Dr. Levine to see if the grunt was him? ···

Bill opted to try and see if he could find anything of Levine's that might be scattered about, skill roll! 3FEeyQfE 3 + skill roll 2 = 5!... Success!
Amongst the river rock, Bill finds himself picking up a notebook. It's water resistant and in a firm case, clearly meant to take a beating if needed and it certainly seems like it has judging from the scrapes going across the metallic front. Flipping it open, it seems to have been used on Levine's dig before coming to Sorna and contains notes on a genus called "Suchomimus". Assuming the cloned dinosaur is parallel to the real one, might come in handy. Troubling however is the pages dated to his arrival on Sorna, or lack there of. The unused pages are still there but the dates from a few days ago are all gone. And judging from the scraps of paper on the rings holding them in place, they seem to have been torn out.
Gary power walks up the stream and heads back to the group, about to call out to them when he sees Randy approaching the bag slowly and the chirp from before calls out again. Movement out of the corner of his eye betrays a presence and on the edge of the brush is the little dinosaur again, bobbing its head as it watches the humans from a distance after following Gary.
Randy, focused on the bag feels it move and budge some. Upon grasping it he feels some resistance that slacks off as he pulls away. But rather than a man's hand grasping at it, he soon finds himself face to face with a levitating food container. The tin drops, revealing a creature had its head shoved up into it and was enjoying Levine's lunch. The rest of it's body is obscured by the brush, but it seems cow sized in total and sports a short beak. It's currently nudging at Levine's ham sandwich.
Bill, do you A. Try to ID the species with your field guide? (Skill roll) B. Pull out your boltcutters in case of attack?
Gary, do you A. Draw up your knife in case the dinosaur(s) are hostile? B. Finish rejoining the group or watch the smaller dinosaur following you? C. Draw up your tranq rifle in case the dinosaur(s) are hostile?
Randy, do you A. Attempt to ID the species with your dinosaur knowledge? (skill roll + 2) B. Use the flare to make the creature back off for safe distance? ··

(Triple A eh'? Woulda thought it take longer to call a repairman)
Bill attempts to identify the species, skill roll! vWKJnmQl 3 + skill roll 6 = 9!... Failed! (10% chance to)
Unable to get a good look at the creature from his vantage point, Bill wasn't able to tell what he was looking at precisely.
As Gary draws his knife, however, the gleam catches the green dinosaurs attention and it darts closer... and it wasn't alone. A good half dozen small dinosaurs come scurrying out of the shrubs and head towards the party, not charging but making a lot of chirps and cackles as they curiously bound closer.
Randy attempts to identify the species, skill roll! 4 + 2 per Paleontologist Perk + skill roll 3 = 9! ... Success!
Randy successfully identifies the larger dinosaur as a Stegosaurus, a Jurassic period herbivores. However judging from its size, cow scale compared to the adult's rhinoceras or elephant size, and shortened dorsal plates used for display; it's only a juvenile. And the sudden appearance of the smaller dinosaurs and Randy startling it causes it to cry out in surprise! Soon the ground rumbles and the air becomes alight with bellows. Brush crashes and three adult Stegosaurus start to billow out of the forest and into the river up to the north, barreling at the party with their four foot thagomizer spines raised and waving.
Gary, the furthest away, do you A. Call out to your comrades and run southward and get clear as fast as you can? B. Stand your ground against and knife-fight the charging multiton herbivores? C. Shoot the closest adult Stegosaurus with the tranq rifle to try and break the charge or buy time? D. Call out to your comrades and run up the slopes of the creek bed?
Bill, you're the closest to the oncoming first Stegosaurus, do you A. Call out to your comrades and run southward and get clear as fast as you can? B. Smack its small head with your boltcutters to try and knock it silly? C. Call out to your comrades and run up the slopes of the creek bed?
Randy, you're closest to the distressed baby, do you A. Search Dr. Levine's bag? B. Run away as fast as you can to fall back along the creek bed? C. Use your road flares to blind or surprise the dinosaurs? D. Call out to your comrades and run up the slopes of the creek bed?·

The three Expedition members make for the slopes with Dr. Levine's bag and notebook in hand and true to form, this area has slopes too steep for the dinosaurs. However one gets too close and it can still reach. The adult male Stegosaurus comes thundering past as the baby rejoins the herd and cocks back it's tail for a swing. While the lance sized spikes miss Gary, they dig out the ground under him and cause him to slip down the slope and into the creek. Gary is now in the middle of a mass of stomping legs and booming bellows as an adult female, as indicated by her duller colors, comes charging up towards him. The male meanwhile comes about and takes another swing at Randy and Bill.
Bill, you are risking impalement, do you-
A. Jump off the slope to dodge? (Action roll) B. Vault yourself over a log next to you to shield yourself? (Action roll) C. Climb into the log for even more protection? (skill roll)
Randy, you too risk impalement, do you-
A. Jump off the slope to dodge? (Action roll) B. Vault yourself over a log next to you to shield yourself? (Action roll) C. Climb into the log for even more protection? (skill roll) D. Use a road flare (8 left) to try and scare off the dinosaur? (skill roll)
Gary, you risk being trampled, do you-
A. Use your tranquilizer rifle (10 shots left) to try and dizzy or distract the female Stegosaurus? (Action roll) B. Sprint down the creek to try and outrun the large dinosaur? (Action roll) C. Use the reflection of your knife to try and shine a glare in the dinosaur's eyes? (Skill roll)

Bill and Randy both dived behind a large fallen log slumped over on the slope just as the Stegosaurus took a swing at them.
Bill's action roll! fhQ9|HNm 3 + action roll 1 = 4!... Partial failure! Bill now has -1 on action rolls for the chapter until healed by medical kit or returns to base camp.
Randy's action roll! 3 + action roll 6 = 9!... Success!
The keratin coated spikes rammed through the decaying wood like cardboard and jammed out the other end just inches from Randy's face however one spike nicks Bill across his shin. It's not deep, but does gouge through his pants and will scar. However with it's tail now firmly stuck on the wood, the Stegosaurus bellows in confusion as it yanks the tree off the ground and swings its tail around trying to dislodge it, kicking and thrashing wildly like a rodeo bull.
Gary meanwhile sprinted out the creek bed, kicking up jets of water as the other adult Stegosaurus thundered after him! Action roll! 3 + action roll 3 = 6!... Success!
Gary manages to sprint faster than the Stegosaurus can accelerate and gets a good headstart. It eventually gives up and ambles back off into the forest. As he does however, several of the smaller dinosaurs run past Gary and towards the creek downstream like they're attracted to something. One of them gets to Bill and Randy, chirping and hissing while looking at Bill's leg.
Bill do you A. Try to crawl up the rest of the slope? B. Hit the small dinosaur with your bolt cutters? (skill roll) C. Try to kick the small dinosaur away? (action roll)
Randy, do you A. Shout and wave your arms to try and ward off the intruder? (action roll) B. Attempt to punt the intruding dinosaur away? (action roll) C. Draw Bill further up the slope to get away from the Stegosaurus?
Gary, do you A. Shout and throw river rocks at the smaller dinosaurs? (action roll) B. Use your tranquilizer rifle (10 shots left) on the Stegosaurus to dizzy and/or calm it down? C. Run after the smaller dinosaurs to get to your comrades and risk rushing past the Stegosaurus? (action roll)··
