Expedition members - Name: Bill Stewarts RP'd by: Vman0 Role: Engineer Stats: *3 *2 *3 Equipment: Boltcutters, Field Guide, and Radio unit Expedition Group: Team VTD a.k.a Mauve Shirts Bio: A private eye from the EPA, he was sent to Isla Sorna to investigate the rampant invasive dinosaurs on the island, as well as the litter and junk left behind after it's abandonment by InGen. This assignment wasn't voluntary, as the higher ups didn't like his abrasive personality and guile, which led to his 'reassignment to antarctica'. He also made a blood oath during his high school years, but who he made that oath with is a mystery. Name: Randy Archer RP'd by: DiverseInterests47 Role: Paleontologist Stats: *3 *1 *4 Equipment: Medical kit, Road flare, Radio Unit Expedition Group: Team VTD a.k.a Mauve Shirts Bio: Randy Archer loved dinosaurs ever since he was a kid. He studied them all throughout collage and helped on some digs as well, even meeting the later famous Dr. Alan Grant. However, upon hearing of the incident on Isla Nubar, his love for the once great creatures tempered off somewhat. Until one day when he was asked along as a consultant for the Isla Sorna expedition. It is up to him to act as a guide for the others and ensure their survival against creatures perfected by 65 million years of evolution. Name: Gary Paladecki RP'd by: Temnizziv Role:Tracker Action:3 Stealth:3 Skill:2 Equipment:Tranquilizer, Binoculars, and Ka-Bar Knife Expedition Group: Team VTD a.k.a Mauve Shirts Bio:A sensitive nature lover at heart, he always preferred to deal with animals rather than the academic subjects of highschool. He lost his father on an automobile accident, and suffering from the resulting grief, had a falling out with a close friend. He eventually went to work for an environmental NGO before being hired by Hammond as a field scout for the expedition to Isla Sorna. He has an antagonistic relationship with Nick Van Owen due to ideological differences and Bill Stewarts for unspecified reasons. You are not alone on this island. Dr. Levine has been taken and who knows just what BioSyn is planning by seizing the dinosaurs on this island. They seem to be set up in the Game Trail to the west of your position near the mountains. They're better armed, better manned, and probably wouldn't be too kind if they discovered your team. However, you all have one big advantage. They won't know the island species, as evident by them keeping Dr. Levine for identification purposes. They might have grabbed something that could be useful.. if put to the right use. They also do not know they are not alone on this island. Objectives: Catalog at least three species of dinosaur of any type, you need to know what BioSyn is trying to steal. If you can get close to the camp, attempt to find where they might be keeping Dr. Levine. First, decide your options. You may decide to split up if desired: Do you A. Move the trailers closer so you could make a quicker get away and be better stocked to easedrop or deal with the BioSyn team, but run risk of being seen easier. B. Get the trailers hidden and close the rest of the distance on foot as night starts to fall. You'll be much stealthier, but be more exposed. You may also swap out one equipment item for another at the Equipment thread.

I am begrudgingly forced to concede with the others. (Option A) I get your concern's, but having the trailers nearby gives us better cover should we need to regroup. Plus, I'd rather not hike back to the trailers in the dark through a jungle full of dinosaurs.

Just checking any equipment swaps?
=====================================
The three, with some reluctance, opt to move the trailer's closer to the camp. Driving slowly through the hills and past the forest is difficult, especially without the headlights on as that would be a dead give-away to the BioSyn team as the sun went down. Gary takes the wheel and drives, using his binoculars night vision as a would-be pair of night vision goggles. Through the dark haze he glimpses numerous night goers of the island, including a pair of extremely bright, reflective eyes low to the ground belonging to a dinosaur he couldn't place in terms of shape other than it thankfully wasn't a large one.... The large one that followed wasn't.
The trailer grinds to a half, half way to the desired destination. The terrain about is treacherous and to help further mask the team's tracks they've been sticking to the relatively flat, gravel covered creek beds that border the river they were swinging past. Visible in Gary's goggles is a very large, bipedal dinosaur. It doesn't seem to have noticed, or least didn't pay any attention to the oncoming trailers. It stands a good thirteen to fifteen feet tall at the shoulder and while obscured through the brush near it, has a glint of sharp fangs in the night light as it blocks the trailer's path.
Gary, do you A. Honk the horn at it and try to rouse the dinosaur into moving? B. Pass the binoculars to Randy or Bill to try and ID the dinosaur? (+2 to any of their ID rolls) C. Try and startle it away with the trailer's headlights? D. Swap a item for a field guide and attempt to ID the dinosaur yourself? (Skill roll)
Randy, do you A. Attempt to ID the dinosaur with your paleontology knowledge? (Skill roll + role bonus) B. Use a road flare (8 left) to try and drive the animal away? (Skill roll) C. Leave this to Gary and Bill and use the radio unit to make sure BioSyn hasn't noticed you? (Skill roll) D. Discuss releasing the captured "Compy" as a distraction in hopes the dinosaur will chase it?
Bill, do you A. Leave this to Randy and Gary and use the radio to make sure BioSyn hasn't noticed you? (Skill roll + class bonus) B. Discuss releasing the captured "Compy" as a distraction in hopes the dinosaur will chase it? C. Attempt to ID the dinosaur with your field guide in case Randy can't get a good look at it? I choose Option B to Randy. Dive, now would be good to switch your radio for a Ghillie Suit, and V, check the radio to see if either BioSyn has noticed us or for insight on what kind of Rex we're dealing with.

Okay, switching radio for a Ghille Suit. As bad as my stealth is, it's worse without it. Also, I choose option A. I have a feeling I know what it is, and that's not a good thing.

Name: Bill Stewarts RP'd by: Vman0 Role: Engineer Stats: *3 *2 *3 Equipment: Boltcutters, Assault Rifle, and Radio unit Expedition Group: Team VTD a.k.a Mauve Shirts Bio: A private eye from the EPA, he was sent to Isla Sorna to investigate the rampant invasive dinosaurs on the island, as well as the litter and junk left behind after it's abandonment by InGen. This assignment wasn't voluntary, as the higher ups didn't like his abrasive personality and guile, which led to his 'reassignment to antarctica'. He also made a blood oath during his high school years, but who he made that oath with is a mystery. =========================== Gary, the only one in the front trailer, turned down the lights in it and pulled out the intercom radio. "Randy, need you up here. Got a bit of a living roadblock out here." Randy's voice chimed in soon after, "On my way." Keeping quiet and invisible as he could as Randy got up front, Gary pulled off his binoculars and passed them to the paleontologist. "What do you make it?" Randy put on the night vision binoculars and observed the dinosaur, adjusting the focus to get it in better definition. Skill roll! TATr_mQv4 + roll 6 + 2 role bonus + 2 binocular bonus = 14!... Bonus Success!Randy spotted an unmistakable crocodile-like head, pair of large arms tipped in meat-hook claws, and muscular raised dorsal ridge going across the elephant sized animal's back. SuchomimusSpecies: Suchomimus tanneriLength: 40 feet Height: 12 feet Weight: 5 tons "I'd say it's a Suchomimus tanneri, large Spinosaurid of the Mid-Cretaceous." Gary squinted as he tried to peer through the darkness. "Carnivore?" Randy nodded, "Yes, though mostly a fish eater. Though it could eat some land prey. Big fella too, looks about in the fort foot, four and up ton range." Leaving them to deal with the dinosaur and hoping it wasn't more damn Stegosaurs, Bill tinkered at the radio and tuned in to the frequency they knew BioSyn was using, trying to take heed not to leak any noise back as to tip off the intruders them being ease dropped. Skill roll! 3 + Skill roll 2 + 1 role bonus = 6!...Partial success He succeeded and the BioSyn frequency became audible with only minor static from the trees interfering. "Update: We got five assets packaged and the Caged Birdie just confirmed we hit the jackpot! Rounds on Dodgson for tonight boys soon as the array is up!" There was sounds of cheering in the background followed by a very loud, electrical hum that soon overpowered the transmission and started blaring through the radio despite Bill's attempts to shut it off. Even if it was only mildly annoying to humans, its high frequency was all too audible to other fauna. The "Compy" caged nearby squawked angrily and refused to stop, spurring Bill to leer at it like someone would a noisy pet parrot who wouldn't stop calling out. "Oh shut up you!" But it evidently wasn't the only creature hearing the radio, the ground shook briefly and Bill paused. It shook again, a small rumble. Up in the front trailer, Randy pailed and pulled Gary down after shutting the last light out. " Shit shit shit! It's coming!" =============== Randy, do you A. Give back the binoculars so Gary can use them? B. Use a road flare (8 left) to distract or drive off the approaching dinosaur? (skill roll) C. Try and observe the dinosaur from a covered window and gather for intel? Gary, do you A. Try to observe the dinosaur from a covered window? B. Attempt to move and find your tranquilizer rifle in the darkness with the Suchomimus just outside? (stealth roll) C. To get to the com-line and warn Bill about what's coming? (action roll) Bill, do you A. Try to shut off the radio's transmission? (Skill roll) B. Throw a jacket over the Compy to quiet it? C. Try to get up and turn out the lights? (stealth roll) ·

Gary gulped and snuck about, trying to not make any sudden noise and risk rousing the dinosaur. Action roll! 3EKbpVcdp_ 3 + Roll 3 = 6!... Failure!
Trying to get up and find the com-link in the darkness was much easier said than done. When trying to be sneaky, Gary accidentally slipped on some papers and yanked the com-line cord out as he fell to the ground. Outside the trailers, the Suchomimus grunted as it looked at the first trailer, the source of the bang, before shifting back focus to the second. Now it was even more curious.
Bill swore and fidgeted, trying to get the radio to shut off but whatever the electrical interference was it was making it impossible to just change the frequency and get off it. Skill roll! p_
3 + Roll 3 + Class Bonus 1 =... 7!... Partial success!
Bill managed to get the radio off by switching off all the receiver commands and pulling the power cord out, but it took longer than he expected. By the time he has to breathe a sigh of relief, he notices the Compy has gone dead quiet and the footsteps have stopped. Turning around and looking behind he, he sees a pair of partially reflective eyes on blue-ish hide looking back at him. The Suchomimus can see him clear as day and is tilting its head slightly back and forth in a curious manner, tapping its crocodile-like snout against the glass to try and figure it out.
Seeing what's happening, Randy comes up with a bold plan of action. He pulls a road flare out of his pocket, remembering when Doctor Grant confided with him how the Tyrannosaurus reacted to them. Cracking a window open, he tries to light it while holding the binoculars up to see. Skill roll! p_ 4 + Roll 4 = 8!... Success!
Managing to light it, Randy lobs the flare as far as he can, at this distance managing to pitch it a good thirty feet away near some shrubs on the side of the creek bed. The Suchomimus pitches it's head up and looks over at the flare, then back to Bill. It's not acting aggressive even though it seems to have well figured out he's in there. Curious again, it moves towards the flare but doesn't go that direction entirely. In the flickering lantern of light it becomes evident the creature is limping slightly. There's something caught between it's legs. Taking a long step, the Suchomimus flinches and prods at whatever is wrapped around it's lower legs with its claw, giving a metallic rasping noise. It looks at the flare, then at the trailer, and goes back to the latter, standing outside Bill's window with it's tail waving in front of Randy and Gary's. It seems to almost sit down behind the crash resistant glass, making quiet grunting noises.
Randy, do you A. Try to see what's stuck on the dinosaur's legs? B. Give the binoculars back to Gary and do A by flare light alone? C. Use another flare? (7 left) Skill roll
Gary, do you A. Get to the driver's seat and try to get the trailers moving now that the Suchomimus isn't directly blocking the road? B. Plug the com-link back in and try to contact Bill again? (Skill roll+2 if with binoculars) C. Get to driver's seat and honk the horn to try and rouse the Suchomimus into leaving?
Bill, do you A. Try to radio Hammond and ask him if he knows anything about this species? (Skill roll + class bonus) B. Try to move to the first trailer, risking stepping outside briefly to get between the cars, to get to the others? (Stealth roll) C. Shoot the dinosaur with your assault rifle? (action roll) ··

Option A, since the Suchomimus isn't actively aggressive towards mammals. Randy did something brave, though was careful not to be stupid as he poked his head out a window only after it had its back turned. Through the flare light and the binoculars he could see what looked like a wire and rope stuck around its legs, starting to dig in and make it bleed. He recognized it from a poaching incident near a dig in South Africa as it resembled a snare trap elephant and rhino poachers tried to sneak into parks. Randy ducked back inside, "Snare trap around its legs. Might had had a run in with the BioSyn goonsquad."

Bill ducked down and moved forward, hoping the Suchomimus' attention would be on the visible compy and not him. He snuck forward on his tiptoes, slowly pacing his steps as he inched towards the door. Stealth roll! 2FSZvoADp_
2 + Roll 3 = 5!... Partial success.
Bill got up to the door and managed to start to work it open, but just as he cracked it open and took a step over the hitch to walk to the next trailer, he found himself looking into a pair of softball sized eyes and a tall figure looming over him motionlessly. He froze, staring at the Suchomimus staring back at him. It grunted, tilted its head, and started to move closer, spurring him to slam the door shut and duck back inside. The dinosaur stuck its head and neck between the trailers best it could, tapping at the door with its snout and making a low sound audible to both trailers that sounded like very deep whimpers a dog would make played over a crocodile hiss. It shifted back after a time and resumed looking at Bill through the window.
Across the hitch, Gary worked to get the com-line linked back together. Skill roll! p_ 3 + Roll 4 = 7!... Success!
Feeling about the socket, he managed to plug it back in and ring up the second trailer.
He whispered with a cupped hand, "Bill? Bill!.. You alive back there? Can you get up here?"
The com-line staticed before a thoroughly annoyed tone rang through it
"Alive and fat chance! Croc-faced jackass gave me a heart attack! Can't get to main trailer, it's got a bearing on me and was waiting outside the door."
Randy and Gary pailed, the latter gulped and held the link, "Did it make a lunge? First aid kits with your end."
"No, no. I'm fine. Big bastard just stared at me and tried to open the door. Think it's trying to open us up."
Gary shrugged, "Randy says its got something like a snare trap on its leg, probably BioSyn's."
The trailer rocked briefly. Outside the Suchomimus was leaning on it. Not trying to attack it seemed, not aggressive enough, but it was seemed searching for the humans it knew where in there.
Randy grumbled, "We are not going to get anywhere with that thing outside. This bendy road it'll be on us the whole way..."
Gary, "Open to suggestions here."
Gary, do you A. Hoop and hollower, and honk the trailer horn to try and distract or confused the Suchomimus and get it away from the doors? B. Attempt to shoot through an open door or window and tranquilize (9 darts left) the Suchomimus? (action roll)
Randy, do you A. Ask for Gary's knife and go outside in your ghillie suit, and try to cut the rope part of the snare? B. Sneak out in your ghillie suit and use another road flare (7 left) to try and draw the dinosaur away? (Stealth roll or Skill roll)
Bill, do you A. Call up Hammond and see what is going on if he knows anything about this species? (Skill roll + class bonus) B. Chance it and go outside with your boltcutters and cut the metal wire part of the dinosaur's snare? (Skill roll+ bonus) ·

Look, we all know that this Suchomimus is a wounded and distressed innocent rather than some malevolent aggressor. We should think of some plan to help it without frightening or harming it. After all, are we not human beings, creatures of compassion and mercy?
While the tranq might calm down the Sucho in theory, the tranquilizer takes time to work(especially on a large animal) and shooting at it might only cause further distress, not to mention what an unbalanced Sucho might do to us.
Alright, I'm gonna try to distract the Sucho while Dive and V will hopefully use teamwork to cut the snare.
